Calum Cille, also called St. Columba. Burried at an island called Eilean Fhianain, also called green Isle, which is located in Loch Shield. I will be there in a few weeks and shall try to get a boat to go there. Does anyone has information of Eilean Fhianain or Calum Cille?

Saint Columba was buried on Iona, he came from Ireland to convert the Scottish barbarians to Christianity and and based himself on Iona. There is a shrine to him in the Abbey there, so presume he is buried inside, unless he died elsewhere and was buried there later, I seem to remember one of the saint's bones associated with Scotland were moved around a bit thought that was Cuthbert or Mungo. Iona was the burial place of early kings, Macbeth and Duncan are buried there, also some Irish and Norwegian kings, you can still see the remains of the old grave stones outside near the Abbey but they are much battered and eroded by the salty harsh weather.
He was the one of the first to see the Loch Ness monster as far as I can remember on one of his wanderings converting the natives.
Iona is worth a visit, no cars are allowed on the island, car ferries from Oban, then a one track road through Mull from Craigure to the Fionnphort ferry across to the island. Its a wonderful mystical place, if you haven't been yet Mike its certainly worth a day, Mull too is a wonderful place, I actually thought you had been on Mull, Tobermory for some reason ;D

Saint Columba is really a fascinating person! However, if someone has seen Nessie.... ;D Is it true that nowadays every thursday is called to be a 'good day' due to Saint Columba? Yes, we have been to Mull... Yes, I already checked out for someone (www.turusmara.com) to take us to Iona in 2005 (and to Staffa, too). When we reached Mull (from Ardnamurchan) there was heavy rain falling down. Well, I didnt mind the rain, but my kiddies said, the rain would kill them and the road was too long and there was no ice-cream available at all! What a cruel world! By the way: for the same reason we did not reach the 'Singing Sands' of Gortenfern, since the poor kiddies feet were too tired to walk any further! So if there will be excellent weather (not too hot of course), lots of ice-cream and a taxi on Iona, there will be a chance to go there ;D I am sure, you now understand my problems...

Thought that was because it is pay day ;D
