I rewatched "The Last of the Mohicans" again. I love this film. I think most of you will know it, for those who don't, here is a bit about it:
The Last of the Mohicans" was one of the most popular and acclaimed films of 1992. Its vision of early America, as it was during the French and Indian War, is captured in its utter brutality and beauty, complete with the many driving ambitions and clashing cultures of everyone involved.
This movie has a bit of everything, including action, romance, war, and passionate drama.
The story (and what a story) is all over the place, with three frontier scouts - Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), Chingachgook (Russell Means), and Uncas (Eric Schweig) - escorting a British colonel's daughters - Cora and Alice Munro (Madeleine Stowe and Jodhi May) - to safety at the besieged Fort William Henry. Major Duncan Heyward (Steven Waddington) rivals Hawkeye for Cora's affections and a vengeance-driven Huron named Magua (Wes Studi) seeks to have both daughters killed in retribution for the loss of his own children.
The director Mann uses the lush wilderness settings to great effect. He also makes good use of the editing, which actually comes in handy when showcasing the brutal violence that dominates much of the film's action sequences. The film's last 20 minutes are a definite stunner that can only be described as classic and vicious. Not to forget about the perfect soundtrack...
It's...in short words...A GREAT MOVIE.
And an additional info for all friends of Celtic music..."Clannad" is performing the "I will find you" song.

The Last of the Mohicans is one of my very favorite films and Eric Schweig one of my favorite Native American actors. I have watched this movie over 20 times I bet. I just recently bought the extended version which doesn't have the Clannad song in it. They cut that out. In fact, a little bit of trivia here. Did you all know that Sara Donati's inspiration for the Into the Wilderness series was based on that film?

They cut the Clannad song in the Extended Version, Rose? :-[I was going to buy the Director's Cut because of some additional scenes I would love to see after having read an interview with Russell Means about the movie. Very interesting! Actually three of my favourite Native American actors are acting in "The last of the Mohicans"...Eric Schweig, Russell Means and Wes Studi...and aye, Eric Schweig is quite the pleasure to look at, I agree! Yes, I read on Donati's homepage that she was inspired by this movie. Who would not, eh?

Have you seen him lately? He has put on tons of weight and looks much much older. Didn't even recognize him in a recent movie. I forget the name of it now. They are showing a series called Into The West here now and he plays Sitting Bull. He looks so different.

He IS 13 years older now, Rose. Yes, I saw a pic recently and he looks differently now. Is it "The Missing" you have seen him acting in? I have also seen pics from "Into the West" on a website. Unfortunately we will not be able to see the series over here.

Hard to believe that's Eric Schweig, isn't it? Yes, it was The Missing. It was a pretty good movie. I am recording Into the West, but have yet to see it. I missed the first two parts when I was out of state. Too bad, Dreamy, you are not going to be able to see it. I hear it is supposed to be really good series. They'll probably put it on DVD.
