Hi hope you do not mind me putting in this link.
Today was the anual Edinburgh Taxi trade Charity outting for Handicap Children. From Edinburgh to Yellowcraigs beach near Direlton.
This is also the 60th year of this event. This event is a must to go and watch. This year they had close to 100 taxis taking part. We were able to get out today and watch it.
First I shall try my best to describe what happens. The night before this event the taxi drivers start to decorate there taxi as you shall later from the pictures. Then on the morning of the event they go and collect the children and family members they are to carry from there homes. They then driven to the starting point which is Murrayfield Rugby Stadium Edinburgh. After fun and games at the stadium. And being issued with high preasure Water pistols and extra water they leave under a rolling police closed road system.
They are then taken through the centre of Edinburgh and down to Musselburgh where the world famous ice cream shop called Luca`s provides the children with Ice cream and jelly. before travelling along the east coast through the many fishhing villages and towns of Prestonpans famous for the battle. Port Seaton. down through Aberlady and Gullane. Now as i ay they children have water pistols. Well Gullane has the Scottish Fire rescue Training Centre. Well when we passed through about 20 minutes ahead of the taxis the fire service trainees were on both side of the Main Street all were armed with water pistols and they even had two fire engines with the blue lights and the two tone horns on. Plus the hoses were out also.
We decided on the nice location of Direlton East Lothian the stop and take photos from outside the Castle grounds and then take the short drive to yellowcraigs to get more photos.
Once the children arrive at yellowcraigs they are met by the kitchen crew who had arrived earlier to set things up and get the food ready.
So while the children are having lunch the Disco and the Army are setting up their equipment for the kids to enjoy the afternoon.
And then they will all go home exhausted but with happy memories of the day trip.
The money to fund this event comes from charity events the drivers do during the year. Most of these taxis will be back on the road tonight.
So when you give a Edinburgh Taxi driver a tip this is where the money is going.
All I can say is enjoy the photos and well done yet again to the Edinburgh Taxi Drivers for providing yet another great day for the Handicap children.
The taxis are judged on route by several judges in different towns and villages with the prize going to the childen within that taxi.
And the prize for the best decorated taxi went the follow taxi. Well done on the effort that went in. The driver spent 12 hours getting his car ready. Yes there is a Taxi under all this.
