And another very interesting fact is that Robert Burns Mother and brother Gilbert also lived in East Lothian. Close to a small village called Bolton to the south west of Haddington. It is in the grounds of the Bolton Village Church that his mother and a few of the family rest in peace. Also close by is the memorial stone to where they family house stood and the well where they obtained the daily water. The Meadows in Edinburgh was also tended by Robert Burn`s father. East Lothian is the forgotten area in Robert Burns life. And i feel this is the area which requires to be high lighted in his life.

I never knew that Neil, never even knew they had any connection with East Lothian, definitely is the forgotten area, always thought his parents were buried at the Auld Church in Alloway but when I think on it now, think that was just his father.

I have just managed to recall some photos taken last year when friends were over visiting us. Who were also surprised to hear Robert Burn had family in the East Lothian Area. I hope you can read the information OK on the headstone. Neil

It's great Neil, very clear photos, Gilbert's children all died so young, very tragic, his mother lived a long life for that time, must have had a lot of tragedy in her life. It looks a lovely old church, just noticed the arrow too, where the plot is, thanks so much for posting these, its really interesting to know that. I wonder how many children his mother had, I sort of thought there was only him and his brother, maybe the girls didn't get much of a mention for being girls, and the females were not worthy of an education back then. #rollingeyes#

One never knows these kind of things. Probably because they were not as famous as Robert. They were never mentioned much or because they were so far away from Ayrshire. Looks like the DA Vinci Code Part Two is going to appear. Anyway the house and the well are just to the north of the church about one mile away. And when you stop and think there was no cars back in that time. Which meant walking or horse back or if you were rich the horse and carraige. The well is about half a mile away from the house so can imagine carrying the buckets of water back to the house. One wonder`s though what would Robert Burn think of modern our modern life styles.
