TORY deputy leader Murdo Fraser hit out today after being told there were no plans to move the Stone of Destiny out of Edinburgh Castle.
The Central Scotland MSP has been leading calls for the artefact to be moved to its original home at Scone Palace in Perthshire. He raised the issue in a Holyrood debate last year and wrote to Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson.
But in her response to him Ms Ferguson said the four Commissioners of the Regalia - who are responsible for the safekeeping, repair and preservation of the Stone - were all in favour of keeping it at Edinburgh Castle.
Mr Fraser branded that "extremely disappointing".
He argued there was no reason why the stone should remain in Edinburgh and said: "The Stone of Destiny is a central piece of Scotland's history and I believe it must be stored in a correct fashion for the people of Scotland and across the world to view it, instead of being locked away in Edinburgh Castle.
"Perthshire is the rightful home for the Stone of Destiny."

Its home is Scone, wonder why the decision was made to have it at Edinburgh, I just thought it was for security reasons.

Best thing would be to have it secure in Scone , with a protected area for all to see .
