Football players eager to get their kit dirty have gathered in Dunoon to play the beautiful game - in a swamp. The Swamp Soccer UK two-day tournament is open to anyone over the age of 17 who likes the game or outdoor sports. Swamp football is popular in Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Holland, Russia and Brazil, and is being held in the UK for the first time. Players compete on a wet bog and games are played in two 13-minute halves. World championships have been held every year since 2000. The game originated in Finland and players cannot change shoes during play. Corner kicks, penalties and throw-ins are made with drop kicks, there is no offside rule and the penalty area is five metres deep. The first organised competition was held in 1998, when 13 teams gathered to play for the Finnish Championship.
