I would like to give you all some interest in the Dumfries and Galloway area.
And since we were out in the area today of Moffat and the The Grey Mares Tail. This is water fall which plunges 61m ( 200 foot ) into a gorge forming the 6th highest cascade in Britian.
The Park Ranger on duty today was warning us to look out for the Peregine`s as they are out with the young and may attack if they sense danger. All was Ok. I myself took the short walk which is just to far for Christine to manage. So she relaxed watching me climb the short walk. In the photos you shall people on the long walk which takes you up to the top of the water fall and then on to Loch Skene which is at the top of the hill.
The Grey mares tail is about 8 miles east of Moffat just of the A 708 taking you to Selkirk. Please note this road is recomended as a short cut between the two towns in the winter time as the roads can be several feet deep with Snow.
Approx 10 years ago the tempertures dropped to minus 30 in the area of the Grey Mares tail and people were about to Ice Climb this water fall for the first time in many years.
If you are ever in the area please pay this a visit. If you are a good climber you may wish to do the long walk. If not the short walk will still give you good view.
I would have done the long walk but the phone signal was poor and we did not have the two way radios with us. Or else I would have done both walks.
We are just about to enter the car park
The next photo is taken from midway on the short walk looking up to the long walk.
This looking back towards the east car park.
This the view when you turn the last corner of the path. Think you shall agree well worth the climb and this the short and easy walk.
This another of the water fall.
From a certain point in the east car park you can get a view of the water fall and this is it.
During the summer monthes you have to watch for touring buses on this road. This looking toward Selkirk
This is looking west towards Moffat.
Hope this explains why I like to visit this area of Scotland.
